Code of Conduct

Coaches

  1. As a coach, you need to be a positive role model.  You will need to display and instill in your players the principals of good sportsmanship and team play.
  2. Be reasonable in your demands on the your player’s time, energy, enthusiasm and their performance on the baseball field.
  3. Se a good example.  Children need a coach they can respect.
  4. Be generous with your praise when it is deserved.  Find something positive to say about each player.  Players should never be ridiculed for making mistakes or losing a game.
  5. Develop team respect for the ability of opponents and for the judgment of umpires and opposing coaches.
  6. Keep informed about sound principles of coaching, growth and development principles relating to children.
  7. Impress on your players the need to abide by the rules of the game at all times.
  8. Check equipment and facilities that you use.  They should meet safety standards and be appropriate for the age and ability of your players.
  9. Coaches will comply with the decisions of league officials and observe all rules, policy and procedures as established or endorsed by HBBA and Pony Baseball.

Remember that our children learn by watching the actions of the adults in their lives.  If you would not want a child doing what you are doing, then you should not be doing it.  Good sportsmanship does not happen, it must be constantly taught, encouraged and demonstrated.
